Our library is a very busy place with researchers of all ages, as can be seen in these pictures from June 2011.  Enjoy.

ANNUAL MEETING:

The Perry Historians’ 35th Annual Meeting was held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Duncannon Presbyterian Church.

A short business meeting was held during which Jean Tuzinski, Secretary of the Board of Directors, read the minutes of the 2010 Annual Meeting.  Mr. Harry Focht, Chair of the Nominating Committee, announced the names of the candidates for the three positions to be filled on the Board of Directors.  Those names presented were Arlene Warner, Dan Barkley and Donna Zinn.  There being no nominations from the floor, a motion was made to elect those persons previously listed to the Board.  The business meeting was then adjourned.

Brenda Williams gave a very informative history of the Presbyterian Church in Duncannon, beginning with the small church which was located at the mouth of the two rivers up to the present day church.

Our main speaker of the day was Duane Hammaker, member of the church, President of the Duncannon Borough Council and local historian.  Mr. Hammaker’s topic concerned the people and places of Duncannon and consisted of a very interesting power-point presentation.

One of the attractions of the Duncannon Presbyterian Church is the organ, it being one of many pipe organs provided in the early 1900’s by Mr. Andrew Carnegie.  During our Annual Meeting, we were graciously presented with a short musical interlude by local musician, John Stansfield.

After a delightful and filling meal, prepared by Brenda Williams, we toured the Clarks Ferry Tavern and the exact replica of the original Mouth of the Juniata Presbyterian Church, which was and is now located in the upper portion of the Duncannon Cemetery.  Our thanks to Betty Smith for opening the church to enable us to view the inside.

It was a very enlightening and fulfilling day!
